A student artist at Edison Preparatory High School won first place in the local VFW Young American Creative Patriotic Art contest.
The portrait (pictured above) created by senior student Abraham Garcia will now move on to the state competition! The competition began in 1979 and is held annually by the VFW Auxillary "to recognize up-and-coming artists and encourage patriotism in youth."
Abraham also won a $500 honorable mention in the Sutton Avian Research Center’s 2022 art contest earlier this year for his art (pictured below) depicting a nautilus set on a blue background titled “The Living Fossil”.
