Melanie Copeland has been selected as the 2022-2023 Edison Preparatory Middle School Support Employee of the Year!
Melanie began working at Edison in 2009. She is the lead sign language interpreter for the middle school.
"I am responsible for making sure all of our deaf education students have interpreters in their classes, for meetings, and extracurricular activities. I also provide communication access between teachers and students," said Melanie.
She said she loves working with kids and watching them grow.
"My favorite part of the job is when I'm interpreting for a student in class, and I see that lightbulb moment. That moment when you can see the understanding on their face. Their look of pride and accomplishment makes my 'mom heart' swell."
She said she has been blessed with the best team, students, and school at Edison.
"I am very thankful for all of the opportunities Tulsa Public Schools has given me."
