David Stolz named Edison MS Teacher of the Year

David Stolz has been selected as the 2024-2025 Edison Middle School Teacher of the Year!

This is David's fifth year at Edison teaching English language arts. He also serves as the middle school English department team leader.

We asked David a few questions to learn more about him and his time at Tulsa Public Schools?

How many years have you spent with Tulsa Public Schools?

I was hired in 2012 and spent the last thirteen years teaching in Tulsa Public Schools. I was originally placed in TPS by Teach For America. After completing my two year commitment at Marshall Elementary, I stayed and spent another six years serving the Peoria 61st community. I am forever grateful to those students, teachers, and leaders that laid a foundation for my craft and teaching philosophy.

What do you look forward to most each school year?

What I look most forward to each year in this profession is seeing students grow in their reading capacities; especially in analyzing and examining a wide variety of literature.

What are you most proud of as a teacher?

I believe what makes me most proud being a teacher is seeing students mature and pick up on the nuances of literature. Storytelling is deeply a human experience. I enjoy observing students expand on their connections, develop opinions, and applying their own life experiences to any story.

What do you love about your school?

I am deeply indebted to the Edison community, my colleagues, and administrators for their continued encouragement. A particular shout out to the Sinnett family and Ashley Emerson for supporting my wife and I in managing our son’s type one diabetes. I am also appreciative to Council Oak Elementary and my son’s current and former teachers: Sarah Blanchard, Chelsie Fondren, and Jordan Walters. Without their compassion and help, I would not be able to carry out this craft to my fullest capacity. To my coworkers, support staff, and administrators at Edison, thank you all for your patience and understanding. Especially for letting my son be part of our after school and professional development days!

What is do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy high repetition calisthenics exercise routines, listening to the Jocko Podcast, and eating steak.
