Ninety-four high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors earned the Tulsa Public Schools Seal of Biliteracy after successfully demonstrating proficiency in both English and an additional language.

In the seventh year of the program, students earned seals in Spanish, French, Russian, and – for the first time – Dari. This year, Stacey Gonzalez received the seal in both Spanish and French, and Rahima Sadaat and Sayed Sadaat earned the first two seals in Dari awarded by Tulsa Public Schools.

In addition to this year’s awardees, 99 continuing students in Tulsa Public Schools earned one or more Seal of Biliteracy in previous years, meaning 184 active students in the district have currently earned this honor.

Students who successfully earn the Seal of Biliteracy not only increase in global cultural competence but also gain strong language skills that will help them be successful in college, careers, and life. Students from ten high schools participated in the program this year, which offered a number of language proficiency assessments in all these languages.

Since 2018, Tulsa Public Schools has awarded 680 Seals of Biliteracy - making it the district in Oklahoma with the most Seals of Biliteracy awarded. 2023-24 was the first school year when Tulsa Public Schools awarded Seals of Biliteracy to sophomores, juniors, and seniors (previously only senior-year students were eligible). Tulsa Public Schools was the first public school district in the State of Oklahoma to offer the Seal of Biliteracy in multiple different languages in 2019 and continues to offer the Seal of Biliteracy for each graduating class.
