Dear Students & Parents
Last week was a very busy week for READ 180. We received 10 new computers and headsets with microphones. I did not get the agenda put here on Sharp School last week. I did get this week's agenda on Sharp School. I also added the vocabulary words for each grade. These vocabulary words do not need to be in the spirals, it's just a source of information and a gentle reminder of the words that the students are working on during class.
I will have individual conferences with each student this week during their class period, about their class work, computer work, SRI scores, and the upcoming tests. Be sure to ask your student about his/her conference.
Thank you,
Melissa Kay Hort
Hello My Name Is Melissa Kay Hort

My name is Melissa Kay Hort. This is my fifth year with Tulsa Public Schools and my third year with Edison Preparatory School. I began my college education at Kansas State University where I dual majored in Education and Dance/Theatre. I completed my undergraduate work at Northeastern State university where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Recently, I have completed my Master of Science degree in Leadership and Curriculum Studies at Oklahoma State University.
I have taught pre-school through adult education in subjects such as Reading, Language Arts, Science, Speech, Drama, and Dance. This year I will be teaching Read 180 for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. My classes are geared to improving Reading by the use of technology, auditory tools, individual pacing, and small group class size. My goal is not only to teach strong Reading skills, but also to inspire autonomy, self discipline, and ownership of work and actions. These goals promote good Reading habits and self esteem.
Iam excited to be at Edison. I am looking forward to teaching Read 180. You can reach me at hortme@tulsaschools.org or 918-746-8500.
