Try-Outs March 31 from 5:00 to 7:00
Fee: $30 cash or check (made out to Edison Cheer)
I am very excited about the coming year there are a lot of exciting things happening with our program. However, it is very important for you to understand all the responsibilities that come along with being a cheerleader. Although we will be doing fundraisers throughout the year cheerleading is a major financial obligation. Please make sure you are completely aware of all obligations before trying out.
You must attend clinic and try-outs to be part of the 2011-2012 Edison cheer squad.
You must also be in good standing with the school and with the Edison booster club in order to try-out.
There is no set number of positions to be filled for the Edison Cheer squad. You must have a standing and running back hand spring to be considered for Varsity. You must be able to throw it on mats, grass, turf, and the gym floor. If at any time you stop throwing your back hand spring it will result in removal from the varsity squad.
There will be no other members added to the squad throughout the year, no exceptions. If any member of the squad quits anytime after camp she will not be reimbursed any fees. She will also be required to pay coaching fees for the remainder of the year. She will also not be allowed to try-out the following year. In extenuating circumstances a meeting will be held with the sponsor, student, parents, and a member of administration to decide if the athlete will be allowed to try out again the following year.
We will have an additional try-out at camp for any girls who are injured at the current time. In order for this to apply you must have a Doctor’s note at the time of try-outs. You must also attend the try-out clinic in March and all practices. Depending on the doctor’s note it is possible for someone to make the cheer team but the specific squad will be decided upon at cheer camp.
Results will be posted Thursday, March 31 immediately following try-outs.
The dress for cheer try-outs is shorts and a shirt. Shirts should be long enough to cover your stomach. Make sure hair is secure and not distracting.
Cheer camp is mandatory
- No refunds for any squad member who chooses to quit
- Excused absences are illness/injury accompanied by a doctor’s note, approved school activity, or death in the family. A parent must call to confirm with me if the child is sick, text messaging is not an appropriate form of contact. Remember that cheerleading is a grade and each unexcused absence will have grade consequences
- Missing half an event, being suspended or not participating is considered an unexcused absence.
- Any absence the week before an event/performance may result in being benched. This is at the discretion of the sponsor/coach.’
- Ineligibility will result in being benched until ineligibility is lifted and a report is given to the sponsor. Six weeks ineligible or four continuous weeks ineligible can result in expulsion from the squad.
- Maintaining good standing with the school is MANDATORY. Suspensions, expulsions, or excessive detentions will result in removal from the squad.
- Maintaining a good standing with the community is MANDATORY. Poor representation of the school at other sporting events, school-sponsored events, on the internet, etc. can result in expulsion from the squad. You are representing Edison AT ALL TIMES, character counts.
- Attending four of seven classes is required the day of a performance or game (school sponsored activities are exceptions).
- Grades will be broken down as follows.
- Semester 1: 10% August practices, 20% All other practices, 25% Grades/eligibility, 20% Miscellaneous (including tumbling, uniform, etc.), 25% Games and performances.
- Semester 2: 25% Practices, 25% Grades/eligibility, 25% Miscellaneous, 25% Games and performances

Six weeks ineligible or four continuous weeks ineligible can result in expulsion from the squad.

I understand that these fees can be overwhelming. While it is important to understand the financial obligations that go with cheer, please also understand that we are constantly trying to raise money to off set these cost.
Late Fees – $25 late fee, after 7 days past due. Dues more than 7 days late will result in probation. Dues more than three weeks late could result in removal from squad. Consistently late dues could also result in removal from the squad. If a check bounces you will be required to pay with cash or money order from then on.
Fees will be broken up into monthly dues. However the first payment for summer camp, clothes, and coaching will be larger. This is only because we have to have it before camp.
